However, not all available prospects are a fit for Memphis’ long-term vision. The Grizzlies must be strategic—not just in whom they select, but in whom they avoid.
1. Bronny James (USC) – While his name brings instant attention, Bronny’s on-court production hasn’t matched the hype. He’s a solid defender and has improved as a shooter, but his offensive ceiling remains unclear. Memphis needs immediate contributors with upside, not long-term projects overshadowed by media attention. Drafting Bronny could distract from building a balanced roster.
2. Kel’el Ware (Indiana) – Ware offers intriguing athleticism and length, but questions around his motor and consistency persist. The Grizzlies can’t afford to take a chance on another big who may not bring intensity every night. With Jaren Jackson Jr. already anchoring the frontcourt, Memphis needs a more polished, reliable option to support their identity on both ends.
3. Kyle Filipowski (Duke) – Though skilled offensively, Filipowski’s defensive limitations and lack of mobility could clash with Memphis’ gritty, high-effort playing style. The Grizzlies thrive on two-way versatility, and adding a slow-footed big with questionable fit would hinder their transition game and defensive switching schemes.
This pick is a pivotal moment—Memphis must target players who align with their identity and avoid hype-driven or mismatched prospects.
