I will never get over this fact

I seriously need someone who watched them both in Georgia at that time to explain how McVay was considered better than Megatron. Like, make it make sense.

Let’s break this down. Sean McVay was a solid high school wide receiver—quick, disciplined, smart on the field. The dude clearly had leadership and football IQ, which we now see in his coaching career. But Calvin Johnson? Megatron? That man was an athletic phenomenon. 6’5″, blazing speed, insane catch radius, and just dominated every DB in sight. He looked like a created player from a video game, and somehow it was real life.

McVay won Georgia 4A Offensive Player of the Year in 2003. Over Calvin. How?! Even if McVay put up numbers, anyone who saw them on the same field had to know Calvin was different. It’s not a knock on McVay—he was great in his lane. But come on. One of them became arguably the most physically gifted WR in NFL history. The other became one of the youngest, most successful coaches ever. Different legacies, both elite. But as players? There’s no contest.

Every time I hear about McVay getting that honor over Calvin, I have to laugh. Not because McVay didn’t deserve praise—but because it just shows how early people can miss generational talent when it’s right in front of them.
