ire that started in an NFL stadium suite spread to plastic seats that burned with “significant ferocity,” sending black smoke into the sky on Thursday, The Associated Press reports.
The blaze began around 2 p.m. at the Denver Broncos’ Empower Field, AP reports. It appears to have been partially suppressed by a sprinkler system in a suite before spreading to stadium seating and burning six rows in two sections. About 75 firefighters were on the scene and contained it to about 1,000 square feet.
This type of plastic that the seats are composed of burns with not only significant ferocity, very large flames, but also produces a tremendous amount of black smoke,” said Capt. Greg Pixley, spokesman for the Denver Fire Department.
The cause of the fire, which started in a construction zone, is not yet known. No injuries were reported.
