Beyond performance, Fripp has always had a strong pedagogical side. In 1985, he founded *Guitar Craft*, a program to teach guitar technique, discipline, and a philosophical approach to music. [1] Related to that, he runs Guitar Craft seminars worldwide and directs the *Guitar Circle* community. [1]
Fripp describes his work with Guitar Craft as “my proper work in life.” [1] In 2022 he published *The Guitar Circle*, a book collecting decades of writings, aphorisms, seminar insights, and his philosophies around music and musicianship. [6]
One of his recurring notions is a dichotomy between “Robert” and “Fripp” — “Robert” being the deciding impulse, “Fripp” the person that carries out the decision. [7] He also often speaks of discipline: *“My discipline is doing what needs to be done, whether you like it or not.”* [7]
