The Kyle Larson has decided to forgo an attempt to qualify for the 2025 Indianapolis 500, choosing instead to focus on the $1 million NASCAR All-Star Race. The Hendrick Motorsports driver had previously shown strong interest in attempting “The Double,” a rare and grueling challenge that involves racing in both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. However, in a strategic shift, Larson will stay committed solely to the NASCAR side of things next year.
This decision follows a complicated attempt to race in both events in 2024, which was ultimately disrupted by inclement weather at the Indy 500. Larson’s plans that year included significant coordination with Arrow McLaren and Hendrick Motorsports, as he looked to become the first driver since Kurt Busch in 2014 to complete both marquee races in one day. While his performance during Indy 500 preparations earned praise, the logistical difficulties and unpredictable scheduling proved to be a major challenge.
By choosing to concentrate on the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2025, Larson makes clear that his primary focus remains on NASCAR competition. The All-Star event not only offers a substantial prize but also represents a prestigious opportunity to further cement his legacy in the sport.
Although many fans were excited by the possibility of seeing Larson compete in the Indy 500 again, this decision underlines his commitment to NASCAR and the Hendrick team. Still, it leaves the door open for a possible return to IndyCar in the future.
