The Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward is embracing his transition to the NFL with an extra boost of familiarity and excitement — the reunion with his former college teammate, wide receiver Xavier Restrepo.
The two developed strong chemistry during their time together at the University of Miami, forming a reliable QB-WR connection that lit up ACC defenses. Now, with both players landing in Tennessee, Ward says he’s thrilled to have a familiar face alongside him as they begin their pro careers.
“Having Xavier here makes the adjustment to the NFL a little easier,” Ward said during rookie minicamp. “We already have a bond and a feel for each other’s game, which helps a lot in building trust on the field.”
Restrepo, known for his sure hands, sharp routes, and relentless work ethic, was one of Ward’s favorite targets in college. The duo connected on numerous key plays, and that rapport could prove valuable for a Titans offense looking to inject new life and consistency into its passing game.
Titans coaches have already noted the immediate connection between the two players during early practices. Offensive coordinator Nick Holz commented, “You can see the comfort level between Cam and Xavier. That’s rare for rookies — and it gives us something to build on.”
Both players know the jump from college to the NFL will bring challenges, but the opportunity to grow together in a familiar partnership may give them an edge. Ward emphasized that they’re committed to pushing each other: “We’re here to work and earn everything. But it’s great to do it with someone who’s been in the trenches with you before.”
For the Titans, the Ward-Restrepo reunion could be the beginning of something special.
