Trading Morant now—while his value remains high—could allow the Grizzlies to build a more stable, well-rounded team around Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Marcus Smart. This approach could maximize Memphis’ potential in a highly competitive Western Conference.
Morant’s ball-dominant style sometimes clashes with Bane’s more efficient, off-ball play. By moving on from Ja, Memphis could reset their timeline and create a culture centered on accountability, maturity, and team-first basketball. Rather than being weighed down by uncertainty, the franchise could retool with assets that fit their system and culture.
A perfect trade package could come from the Orlando Magic or Brooklyn Nets. A deal with the Nets might include Mikal Bridges, Cam Thomas, and multiple first-round picks—providing Memphis with elite wing defense, scoring depth, and draft capital. Alternatively, a Magic package featuring Jalen Suggs, Wendell Carter Jr., and future picks offers both win-now contributors and long-term upside.
