Rick Ware, a true motorsports lifer with a diverse background spanning NASCAR and flat track motorcycle racing, made a bold statement when he entered NHRA Top Fuel in 2023 alongside Clay Millican: this was just the beginning of something much bigger. Ware’s commitment signals a new wave of energy and ambition in the sport, blending decades of racing expertise with fresh determination.
At the same time, Tony Schumacher — the eight-time champion and the most successful Top Fuel driver in history — recently parted ways with Maynard Family Racing. Yet, despite the change, Schumacher has shown no signs of slowing down or stepping away from the drag racing scene. In fact, he’s gearing up for a strong comeback.
On a scorching day at Virginia Motorsports Park, Schumacher tested a new dragster, backed by American Communications Construction (ACC). The team has enlisted Rob Flynn, recently from Scrappers Racing, to join Jim Oberhofer in the tuning booth, forming a formidable strategic duo. Their combined expertise promises sharp adjustments and competitive edge for the upcoming season.
Though the team has not announced an official rollout date, Schumacher has emphasized they are carefully awaiting essential parts to ensure their car is race-ready and primed for victory. With 88 wins and eight championships under his belt, Schumacher remains fiercely competitive, while Ware’s involvement hints at a serious long-term investment in Top Fuel’s future.
When such seasoned and passionate figures collaborate, the drag racing world can expect rapid progress and exciting developments ahead.
