The devastating floods that swept through the Texas Hill Country have left a heartbreaking toll, with at least 118 confirmed dead and 173 individuals still missing as of Wednesday afternoon. Kerr County has borne the brunt of the disaster, reporting 95 of the fatalities, including 36 children. The community is grappling with immense grief, particularly in light of the ongoing search for 161 missing individuals from the same area.
Among those unaccounted for are five campers and one counselor from Camp Mystic, a local summer camp that had been operating when the floodwaters struck. Families across the region are holding out hope as emergency crews continue search and recovery operations, despite difficult conditions and treacherous terrain.
Local and state emergency responders are working around the clock, deploying helicopters, boats, and drones to locate survivors or recover the deceased. The floodwaters, triggered by days of torrential rainfall, surged rapidly and without warning, overwhelming riverbanks and washing away homes, vehicles, and infrastructure.
