Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway delivered its usual dose of short-track drama—but for Alex Bowman, it ended in frustration rather than celebration. Bowman, who had shown consistent pace throughout the weekend, saw his race unravel after a late-race incident that derailed what could have been a top-10 finish.
Running competitively inside the lead pack, Bowman found himself tangled in a multi-car clash during a restart with fewer than 50 laps to go. The contact sent his No. 48 Chevrolet spinning, forcing an unscheduled pit stop and placing him a lap down. Despite efforts to recover, track position at Richmond proved too difficult to regain, and Bowman ultimately crossed the line outside the top 20.
“It’s just frustrating,” Bowman said post-race. “We had a fast car all day, and it’s tough to see it fall apart like that. I felt like we were in a good spot strategy-wise, but the late cautions and chaos just didn’t fall our way.”
The incident adds to a string of tough results for the Hendrick Motorsports driver, who’s still chasing his first win of the 2025 season. Richmond was supposed to be a turning point, but instead, it left Bowman searching for answers—and momentum—as the playoffs draw closer.
With a handful of races left before the postseason cutoff, the pressure is mounting. Bowman remains optimistic but knows the team needs to capitalize soon.
“We’ll keep digging,” he added. “We’re too good to stay down for long.”
