Netflix is set to release a compelling new documentary spotlighting dirt racing icon Scott Bloomquist, chronicling his legendary career and recent return to the track. Titled “Black Sunshine: The Scott Bloomquist Story,” the film dives deep into the life of one of motorsports’ most enigmatic and controversial figures.
Widely regarded as a pioneer in late model dirt racing, Bloomquist has amassed hundreds of wins and multiple national championships over a four-decade career. Known as much for his bold personality and unconventional methods as his dominance on the track, Bloomquist has long been a fan favorite—and a polarizing figure in the racing world.
The documentary comes on the heels of his recent comeback following a series of health battles and legal setbacks. Injuries, surgeries, and personal challenges nearly ended his career, but the 60-year-old racer has defied expectations once again by returning to competitive racing in 2025.
Netflix’s production promises exclusive behind-the-scenes access, interviews with fellow drivers, and never-before-seen footage, providing fans with a raw and intimate look into Bloomquist’s highs, lows, and relentless drive.
Produced in partnership with Dirty Mo Media, the series aims to celebrate Bloomquist’s legacy while also exploring the physical and mental toll of a lifetime behind the wheel.
The release date is expected to be announced soon, with fans already buzzing in anticipation.
