The Miami Dolphins are reportedly in discussions with multiple teams as they look to acquire a tight end ahead of training camp. This move follows their recent trade of Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers, leaving a gap in their TE depth chart that needs to be addressed. One name that could surface in these talks is Tennessee Titans’ tight end Chig Okonkwo.

Okonkwo, entering the final year of his rookie contract, has shown flashes of promise as a versatile receiving threat. However, with the Titans drafting rookie Gunnar Helm, the team may be signaling a shift toward a younger, potentially more cost-effective direction at the position. If Tennessee doesn’t plan to extend Okonkwo beyond this season, exploring a trade now could be the smart move—especially while his value is still reasonably high.

From Miami’s perspective, Okonkwo could provide immediate value. His athleticism fits well with the Dolphins’ fast-paced offense, and he could thrive in Mike McDaniel’s creative system, especially with so much attention drawn by Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Compensation-wise, a Day 3 draft pick seems fair. For the Titans, it’s a chance to get something in return before possibly losing Okonkwo to free agency next year. For the Dolphins, it’s a low-risk investment in a player who could be a strong contributor. With both teams having clear motivations, this could be a win-win scenario if the deal comes together.
