It is with great sadness we share the news of the passing of former Tennessee Titans great, Frank Wycheck. He died at his home in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the age of 52.
Wycheck, a beloved figure in Nashville and across the NFL, spent 11 remarkable seasons in the league, primarily with the Tennessee Titans. He played a key role in one of the most iconic moments in football history—the Music City Miracle.
Tragically, it appears he suffered a fall in his home, striking his head that morning. He was found unresponsive later that afternoon. Frank had moved to Chattanooga just this past summer to be closer to his family.
He leaves behind two daughters, Deanna and Madison, both married, and three grandchildren—Leo, Stevie, and August. In keeping with his wishes, the family plans to support ongoing research into brain injuries and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
Frank was open about his struggles following football, often speaking candidly about headaches, memory loss, and depression. He once said he feared suffering from the same condition that afflicted many former players, including Junior Seau. Frank estimated he’d endured more than two dozen concussions during his career. He retired at just 33 years old.
CTE cannot be diagnosed until after death—but the toll it may have taken on Frank was evident. Despite this, he remained a symbol of grit, humility, and loyalty to fans who adored him.
There may be no more beloved former Titan than Frank Wycheck. His legacy, on and off the field, endures.
May he rest in peace.
